In December 2019, two fantasy writers began meeting to discuss and critique their novels-in-progress. They soon decided to open their productive feedback sessions up to others, and the SciFi/Fantasy Writing Group was born! Our first meeting was in January of 2020 and we have been going strong ever since.
- We are an active critique group as well as a community of writers. Weekly meetings involve reading submissions. More on meetings.
- We are writers of varying ages, levels and publishing experience.
- We operate across a variety of subgenres and bring a diverse range of imaginative ideas to the table.
- We have Warsies, Trekkies, Whovians, furries, vampire lovers, history buffs, otaku, scientists… all sorts, all playing nicely together.
- Anyone is welcome, as long as what you’re writing falls under the generous umbrella(s) of science fiction/fantasy/speculative fiction.
- It is a safe space (please see the Code of Conduct) and critique is constructive.
Submission is optional. A few members have a longform WIP and will submit excerpts for feedback, but the majority of the group happily experiments with short pieces and participates via weekly writing exercises (also optional). You are welcome to give feedback even if you do not submit. We try to keep it fun for all!
We meet on Sundays at 12:30pm, and meetings run about two hours. We met in person in the beforetimes, but moved to meeting via Zoom when the pandemic began and are happy there (BYO donuts).

As of May 2025, we are no longer affiliated with LitArts RI.
Our original site was hosted on a free Glitch site, where we were serendipitously given the url impartial-brief-wizard.glitch.me. RIP Glitch. 🌈
If you'd like to support the running of this group, you can buy the group admin a ko-fi. Cheers!
