Meetings

We meet every Sunday afternoon (except for holiday weekends) at 12:30pm EST on Zoom. The Zoom link is sent out with the weekly submissions. Meetings last from 90 minutes to 2 hours, never running past 2:30pm. The majority of the meeting is spent giving feedback on the submitted pieces — we do not read work aloud during meetings and pieces should be consumed ahead of time. After feedback, we take time at the end for any genre-related recommendations — books, movies, games, shows, experiences… our recs are all over the map and touch science fiction, fantasy, horror, magical realism, and beyond.

After the meeting, the group admin sends out notes summing up our discussion. These notes include the writing prompts for the coming week.

Resources

In addition to the notes, there are several online resources for members:

  • Discord: Our group maintains a private server for nerdy chatter.
  • Prompt archive: All previous writing prompts are available online in a spreadsheet, if you’re ever looking for inspiration. Members are never obligated to use the prompts, but many find them helpful.
  • Submission archive: All submissions are added to our online archive in our group Dropbox. Only group members can access this archive. If you have submitted to the group, you have a folder. Pieces are dated and sometimes grouped into subfolders if an author has developed a particular story world.
  • Music: We also have a group YouTube channel where members have built playlists of the music they write to.

Privacy

All submissions must be kept within the group. This includes pieces in the archive. An author’s writing is their own intellectual property and should not be shared outside the group without their explicit permission.
